B.R.O.A.D. Rides Again 1 Year After Crash

Fox Creek Leather Friend Ursula is Back in the Saddle Again

Just one year ago (July 17th) we heard the news that our gypsy / nomad friend and loyal customer Ursula aka The B.R.O.A.D. (TM) had been hit head on by a car passing a semi in a blind curve. Back then, she was touring the country and living solely from her motorcycle after selling all her worldly possessions and setting off on a dream. Among flatline and other injuries, Ursula lost part of her left leg in that terrible accident.

BROAD Rides Again

Her recovery was rocky and brutal for a while. She has since had many adventures just during her recovery with trips to take care of prosthetics and visits to her home state. She can’t just do things the normal way! When asked what she wants people to get out of her story, she will tell you: “I only hope folks can find in themselves the courage to overcome whatever challenges they face. And considering what so many did for me and kept me alive and away from the many narcotics that could’ve ended my pain … I feel that I want to say… It will get better if you help somebody and if you take the help offered. And for my journey, I know we can’t all be nor want to be nomad bikers, but you can make your own dreams come true with a little planning, a lot of faith, and a boat load of crazy.”

BROAD is Home

Luckily, the gypsy / nomad in her did not get squashed. Since Easter Sunday 2014 she has been touring full time with her new rig consisting of a Dodge Ram and a 7×12 trailer she has converted for living. We smile as we have learned that she purchased another bike just one day before the grand anniversary of her accident.

Ursula has now added a 2004 Heritage Softail to her rig and tells us, “I know there will be days that the body won’t let me ride, but since God has allowed me to keep breathing, then I have also been allowed to keep dreaming. I used to think I did the best I could with my life, but I have come to realize the hard way, my best can only get better. For myself and for all the folks that lifted me up and helped me out; I will persevere and I will not take this life for granted. I will continue The B.R.O.A.D. (TM) journey as best I can but it’s no longer really nomad as I now pay to set this rig at camp sites. That’s like paying rent which is what I tried to leave behind in the first place. The Write Hand, my virtual assistant business, is again getting some action but I must continue to grow it for this journey to work. For now, I do my best and I am living life with full vigor. And I particularly thank Fox Creek Leather for the love and support before, during, and now…”

Ursula and Nathan

Ursula told us that one of the greatest firsts she had the pleasure of doing all over again, was riding with her son when she got back on a motorcycle. “I knew on July 17, 2013 that I was going to die. I silently thanked God for all that he had given me. I asked him to look after my son and granddaughter and simply told Him, thanks for the ride. The day I got to ride with my son Nathan again was truly beyond description. At first I was so excited that we took off and dropped the gears like we had so many times before, like we never skipped a beat. When we reached a point in the ride where we sat back, took in the breeze and just rolled along; I began to cry. I was dead, didn’t think I’d be back, thought I’d never see my boy again, and here we were side by side – smiling and riding. There really are no words, it can only be felt inside.”
